With the classical guitar as her main instrument, Joana earned her conducting skills through several years of work as a choir director in Portugal, collaborating with community choirs and expanding the joy of music to diverse audiences. Her commitment to musical excellence led her to pursue further education at the prestigious Atlantic Coast International Conducting Academy with Luís Miguel Clemente as a tutor and Colin Metters as tutors.
Driven by a thirst for knowledge, Joana completed numerous conducting masterclasses, learning under the guidance of renowned maestros such as Colin Metters, Uros Lajovic, Nikolay Lalov, Ernst Schelle, José Eduardo Gomes, Toby Purser and Sasha Mäkilä, and led her to perform
with several international orchestras, namely: Berlin Sinfonietta, Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra, Helsinki Metropolitan Orchestra. These experiences enriched her expertise and broadened her artistic horizons.
Since 2021 and based in Berlin, Joana has been making waves in the community, by focusing on both amateur and professional music with the FuchsTruppe Community Orchestra and Capychoir. Since 2024 she started to work regularly with Neueskammerorchester Berlin, exploring the vast world of forgotten female composers, by searching and preparing fresh and unknown programs.
